You give a little love…
I’ve never been quite sure about January. I once heard that we are all supposed to have a deep affinity with the month in which we were born. I was born in January…and I can take it or leave it. I always want to approach the new year in a spirit of new beginnings. I love the idea of the Roman god Janus, with his two faces, one looking toward the future and the other gazing into the past. I want to see my birthday month as a gateway, a transition, a threshold to excitement and a closure. The reality? I’m caught somewhere between drinking champagne and singing Auld Lang Syne and Jilly Cooper’s wonderful character Declan O’Hara who, on the stroke of midnight, can be heard saying, “Bloody January Again.”
My January started with the picture above. This lovely little heart was hanging on a tree in the woods near my home with a message asking whoever found it to take it home so it could brighten their day. It was left by Spreading the Love UK and the gesture certainly did brighten my day.
Some of you may know that I have a brain tumour. My New Year’s Resolution for 2018 is to raise awareness of how life can get in the way of art. I’m trying to tweet and blog about living (and writing) with a life-altering condition. Look out for my #livewell hashtag and join in, if you can.
My wish is that you have a great January, a wonderful 2018, and that we all spread a little love.
