The Diamond Standard
My parents recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary and received a message of congratulations from the queen. As an author, I’m intrigued by human interactions. As a romance author, I’m fascinated by love. Yet I’d never really stopped to consider the sixty-year romance that was part of my own life.
My parents were both in the navy when they met. My dad is a Londoner, a true Cockney (born within the sound of Bow bells). My mum is a Northerner. She’s outgoing. He’s quiet. They are opposites who share a sense of humour and a love of reading.
After a whirlwind romance, they got engaged and barely saw each other for the next twelve months. Sixty years later, they are still devoted to each other.
I suppose my mum and dad are an example of why I write romance. Love stories are about hope. They are about real people, and they happen every day.
Here’s to you, and your own special stories!
